An Hour with Sid, Zero Speculation Required

Last week I sat down with Sid for the Sit Down With Sid podcast, and he let me ramble on about MH370 for two straight hours. We talked about the forensic data, the limits of radar, why the Ocean Infinity search came up empty, and why the “pilot did it” narrative is on shakier ground than Netflix would have you believe.

It was a proper conversation, no script, no prep, just someone who knows the case letting me work through the technical realities without having to simplify everything into a soundbite.

Sid’s built an impressive series. He’s also interviewed Christine Negroni, Jeff Wise, Blaine Gibson, and a growing roster of people who’ve spent years inside this story. I was glad to join that lineup.

I’ve been wanting to revise *The Mystery of Malaysia Airlines flight 370″ for a while now and this has really helped me to get my thoughts together. I mean, I have three (3!) books that I have in progress and my life is basically on fire right now, so no promises! But I’ve opened that file again, which could end up interesting.

And in case you missed it last week, I was on TRT Nexus talking about the AF447 corporate manslaughter verdict. The Paris Court of Appeals ruled Air France and Airbus guilty and I joined John Nance and Richard Godfrey on Nexus to try to explain what that means from an aviation point of view.

The AF447 segment and the MH370 interview cover two very different investigations, but they’re connected by the same question: how do we piece together the details of what happened and who gets to tell that story?

  • What a fantastic interview! It’s going around the hangars in Santa Barbara, California now! Fascinating!
