Outtakes from the Air Show
I’m still on the road and using the quiet hours to work through my photographs from the air show. Aviation photography sure does have a way of revealing one’s limitations! The aircraft fly faster than I expect. The framing is just a few feet off. Someone stands up in excitement and photobombs the shot. Another aircraft intrudes at precisely the wrong moment. The Patriots were particularly good at that. Yes, I blame them even though they were parked.
Rather than be annoyed, I thought I might share some of my favourite near-misses. They are not the photographs I intended to take, but they still had that special something of being at an airshow.

I have also been experimenting with short video. If you are a YouTube kinda person, you may be interested in my somewhat dusty YouTube channel while I finish sorting through the photos. This will probably be an airshow-only thing but it’s been fun to play with digital effects and loud music.
Hey, stupid question: do they still do the OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD music during the airshow?
I realized about 5 years ago when I couldn’t hear 4 F-18s flying overhead that it had gotten out of hand, and I haven’t gone to an airshow since.
So at this airshow, absolutely not. The announcer was very good and we were often treated to pilots on the radio. There was music but it was not overwhelming. You can hear the original sound in https://youtube.com/shorts/uyi_ONTmRG0 but I did find that removing the airshow noises and adding music makes for much more pooular videos.
Some of the foreground intrusions still look nicely framed.
And if there were an aviation equivalent to the Comedy Wildlife Photo Awards, that one of the nose art appearing to bite another plane’s tail ought to be submitted to it…
Now I really want such an award to exist.
Some of these photos turned out great, for example the fighter with the hands in the foreground, or the fighter with the white aircraft in the background!
L-39 Albatros, but in the second example, sadly the white plane (Extra 330sc) was meant to be the point!
Yes! And now both are!
Yes, I loved these! Especially the bitey aircraft
The first almost looked like a toyshop display of a model plane kit
